The Experience
Your Handlebars, Our Lake
This is the one where you drive. Our guided jet ski safari puts you at the handlebars of a modern ski for a one-hour ride across Lake Wakatipu - open water, hidden bays, and mountain views you simply can't get from shore.
Your guide leads the way and keeps the group together, but there's real freedom in it: room to open the throttle on the straights, ease off and drift through the calm stretches, and stop for the photo you'll be showing people for years.

Jet Ski Tours FAQs
Why choose Jet Ski Queenstown?
Jet Ski Queenstown gives you the freedom to take control of your own jet ski and explore the stunning waters of Lake Wakatipu. With experienced guides, top-quality equipment, and breathtaking alpine scenery, it's one of Queenstown's most exciting water adventures. Perfect for thrill seekers and explorers alike!
Do I need to book?
Yes. Spaces are limited, and our tours are popular year-round. To avoid disappointment, we recommend booking early online or by calling us directly.
How much does it cost?
Check our website for the latest pricing and special offers. We often run seasonal promotions, so be sure to keep an eye out.
Do I need a credit card?
Yes. A credit card is required to be stored on file while you are on the jet skis. This is in case of any intentional or unintentional or reckless damage to the jet skis while you are out on the water.
How long does the trip last?
Tours generally run for around 60 minutes on the water. Please allow 90 minutes in total, including check-in, safety briefing, and preparation.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. All jet ski drivers and passengers must have basic swimming skills to participate in a jet ski tour.
Is there a minimum age?
Drivers must be at least 18 years old. Passengers must be at least 8 years old and able to hold on independently. A parent or guardian must check in with anyone under 18.
Do I need to speak English?
Yes. A reasonable understanding of English is required. This is to ensure all instructions can be understood and followed while out on the lake. We reserve the right to cancel any participant we feel does not meet the requirement for understanding English.
Where do your trips depart from?
All tours depart from the Lapsley Butson Wharf, right on Queenstown's lakefront. Check in at the Jet Ski Queenstown kiosk before your trip.
Where do your trips go?
Your guide will take you across Lake Wakatipu, with the route tailored to lake conditions. You'll get to experience both open water thrills and scenic exploration.
Can I drive?
Yes - that's the best part! Each participant gets to drive their own jet ski (or ride tandem with a friend, depending on your booking).
What should I wear?
Wear swimwear or light, comfortable clothing. We recommend shorts and a t-shirt. Bring a towel and a change of clothes for after your ride. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also a good idea.
Will I get wet?
Yes - jet skiing is a water activity, and you will get splashed! We provide life jackets and waterproof gear as needed.
Is there a weight or height restriction?
Maximum combined weight per jet ski: 200kg. Passengers must be able to sit comfortably and hold on independently. If you're unsure, please contact us before booking.
Is my trip weather-dependent?
Yes. Tours may be affected by strong winds, heavy rain, or unsafe lake conditions. If your tour is cancelled, you'll be offered the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Can I ride a jet ski if I have an injury?
If you suffer from back, neck, or joint issues, or if you're pregnant, we do not recommend jet skiing. Please let us know about any medical concerns at the time of booking.
I suffer from motion sickness - should I still go on this trip?
Motion sickness is rare on jet skis, but if you're prone to it we recommend avoiding a heavy meal before your ride.
How fast do the jet skis go?
Our jet skis can reach speeds of up to 80 kph on the water - but you control the throttle, so you can go as fast or as relaxed as you like.
Where can I put my belongings?
We provide secure storage for your belongings at the check-in kiosk while you're out on the water.
Can my friends or family watch?
The jet skis go quite far out on the lake so it is unlikely that friends and family will be able to see you once you've left Queenstown Bay.
Can I bring my camera/phone?
For safety reasons, we don't recommend using cameras or phones while driving. However, you're welcome to bring a waterproof action camera securely mounted to your jet ski. We also offer professional photo and video packages.
Can I cancel my booking?
Cancellations made at least 24 hours before your booking will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within 24 hours, or no-shows, are non-refundable.
Why is my third-party booking more expensive than direct?
Third-party booking agents may add extra fees. The best price and availability are always guaranteed when you book directly with us.
